Birth Registration in Portugal for Individual born before the Year 1961

All individuals born in Goa, Daman & Diu on or before 19th December 1961 are recognized as Portuguese Citizens. As the Portuguese Government doesn’t have documents available with them of these Citizens, these citizens who are born before 1961 are required to produce Birth Transcription in Portugal. Below is the list of documents required for Birth Transcription in Portugal:
  • Residence Certificate
  • Residence Certificate to prove your citizenship in Goa from 1st Jan 1974 to 31st Dec 1975 (Residence Certificate should be issued by Mamlatdar or Panchayat, it should clearly mention that the individual is resident of Goa or Daman or Diu from birth and also state that the individual is resident during 1st Jan 1974 to 31st Dec 1975.)
  • Birth Certificate (The Birth Certificate should be issued by Sub Register Only, it can be in “TEOR”. Birth Certificate should be produced in Portuguese Language and if it’s not in the Portuguese Language than it should be translated.)
  • Proof of Identity (Photo ID card issued by Government Authority like Voter ID, Passport, etc.)
  • Original Document (Document Issued by Portuguese Government Authority which includes Portuguese Emblem)

  • All documents which are from GOA like Birth Certificate, Residence, etc. are to be attested by a notary from Dy. Collector under Secretary (Home Dept.) Portuguese Consulate Panaji Goa.
  • For documents that are from Daman & Diu or neighboring states, it should be attested by a notary from Mantralya, Under Secretary (Home Dept.), Portuguese Consulate Panaji Goa.
  • For documents from other parts of India, it should be attested by notary External Affairs Ministry – Delhi, Portuguese Embassy – Delhi.
